Chris’ Number 7: 6 Month Long Star Trek: Attack Wing Tournament

 

In the early part of the year, I started playing Star Trek: Attack Wing. If you don’t know, it’s a miniatures game based in the Star Trek universe that uses the same rules as X-Wing: Miniatures Game. I haven’t put up a review of either game yet, but suffice it to say that it inspired me to seek out new tournaments and hobby locations and boldly go where I hadn’t gone before.

Learning to Like Magic – One Girl’s Journey

There is a lot about Magic: The Gathering that I enjoy – the artwork, opening packs, building decks from sealed pools, sorting cards (especially registering sealed pools at GPs!! Hooray for OCD!!!). Unfortunately, the one thing that I don’t really like is playing Magic. Actually, that’s not quite true…I like playing a little bit, but I just don’t feel compelled to improve myself by playing more frequently, which is probably why I only play about once a year – basically whenever Myles wants to go to a sealed Grand Prix. Tournament Report – Playing Modern Burn

I’ve never played a single sanctioned match of Modern. The only time I feel like a competent Magic player is when I’m playing Limited and even then, I’m only just slightly competent. I’m not a serious Magic player, I very rarely travel to play in Grands Prix and I’ve never made it to the Top 8 of a PTQ. So, why invest money into building a competitive deck that I will use maybe twice before it becomes obsolete? This is what I thought to myself before the stores where I play Magic began to really push Modern. Some of the stores had even made their Friday Night Magic format MODERN! Instead of LIMITED?
